The title of my last post – almost two months ago – was “Write your plans in Pencil.” I guess I must have been inspired when I said, “If the Lord wills.” My intention had been to get back to blogging on a weekly, or at the least, a regular basis. Time got away from me in the business of December, and then my own website locked me out from posting anything! As I type this, I’ve been told that it would be corrected but if this blog (written January 29, 2017) shows up around June, then you’ll know why… Hopefully this is the right time to write!
I’ve had a lot of time to think about what comes next in “The Bridge from OneDayBow” chapter 6. To pick up where I left off; in my 3/18/17 post I ended with two questions: Who is the King, and whose King is He? Those two questions sprang from the two questions that Tim asks Emma in chapter 6: Why is the King so far away? Why doesn’t He live here? Before jumping into those questions, I want to take a right turn and then ask some new questions.
In the past weeks I’ve done a short walk through history. I’ve looked at some of the Kings who have ruled throughout the ages, and the people they have ruled over. I must admit, a lot of it has been depressing at the best and downright scary at the worst. Having the title of “King” does not identify the character of a King, but only his authority to rule. Most times the position is a right of heredity but often a King has been replaced under suspicious circumstances, and even foul play. The replacement may be an improvement, or may not be, but unfortunately most common people have no say.
In Here&Now, the person with the most authority is the Mayor. Since he is an elected official, that would make Here&Now a Republic of some sort. Living in the United States grants us the privilege of voting for our representatives, and I can most identify with that type of government, but that doesn’t mean that the elected official will rule in accordance with my – or your – personal values. Living in the state of California may even mean…. Never mind.
So, what about Tim and this King he wants to know about? Some might ask, “Why complicate your life by asking questions about a King you can’t see and don’t know what He may require?” Tim isn’t old enough to vote, and if he was he wouldn’t find the King listed as a candidate on the ballot. If you can only enter His Kingdom by your own choice, what kind of King is He? Since Tim is a citizen of Here&Now, won’t that just complicate things? Is it really necessary to enter His Kingdom now? Why not just live right here to the fullest and think about that when the time comes?
So, when is the right time? If it’s not now, will there ever be a right time?
