It’s getting close to decision time for Tim. Will he choose the King? Tim may be wondering – and maybe you are too – how do you choose someone you don’t know? Emma clearly presented Tim with a choice, an individual, personal choice. He hasn’t met this King yet, and there are probably still unanswered questions, but Emma directs Tim to a starting point. Prayer. The very word may sound intimidating, and as you read Tim’s words it’s kind of like watching a baby learn to walk.
How important is communication to you? I don’t mean high-speed texting, or rapid-fire twitter, but real face-to-face talking. Any good relationship requires communication, and the closer the relationship the greater the need for good communication. But all of us may remember lopsided conversations with someone we hadn’t met before. Getting to know someone is a big part of relationship, and communication makes that happen. Sometimes, listening is even more necessary than talking…
As Tim “introduces” himself to the King, you can’t miss his nervousness. And he wonders, does the King already know what’s going on in his mind? If some of his friends heard him they would probably think Tim was crazy, but Tim wasn’t going to be influenced by their unbelief.
Tim is interested in how far it is to OneDayBow, and maybe more important he wants the assurance that he will be welcomed there. Can someone who has done bad things enter the King’s Kingdom? Someone who pretended the King didn’t even exist?
But Tim was getting ahead of himself. He couldn’t go to the Bridge right now. His Dad and Mom would not understand that kind of decision. He would like to go, someday… But remember something: Tim had just been hearing the King’s Word – listening!
The last thing Tim says to the King is, “Please help me want Your will.” Tim was asking the invisible King to do a work on the inside of himself. Did the King answer? Maybe not with audible words, but with an inner assurance that the One Who knew Tim’s thoughts and desires – even before he did – revealed Himself while Tim was practicing prayer.
How about you? The God of the Bible invites people to seek Him and find Him, and even says we should pray without ceasing. And what about listening? Since the Bible is called the Word of God, what better way to hear from God than with His Book open? Still need practice at both? Why not take some time and do it now?
