Have you ever heard about a place and been over-the-top excited to go there, only to find out upon arrival that it was more amazing than you ever imagined? Think Disneyland… no, way better than Disneyland, and no lines to wait in! Tim has arrived at OneDayBow and his first impression is over-the-top amazement: “I’m really here – and it’s real!”
It’s one thing to hear about the Kingdom, it’s another to experience it for yourself. I love the illustration on page 32. (Good job, Lindsey!) The words that come to my mind are peace, joy and excitement. It’s like coming home to a place you didn’t know was Home; and leaving a place that you thought was home only to find out that it was really only a side road on the way Home. Which makes it seem a little early for Tim to start to dread leaving. After all, Tim just got there. Tim was torn but it was based on physical limitations and mental perplexity. The King has neither!
I am sure no physicist, in fact I didn’t do well at high school biology, but I do know that there are obvious physical limitations in our material world. Think time and space. Which makes the King’s words to Tim doubly confusing:
“Even while in HereAndNow, you still will be with Me.
I am the eternal King, not limited by place.
My Kingdom is not bound by confines of time and space.”
Tim couldn’t figure out how he was observing something that wasn’t limited by confines of time and space. Frankly, me too. But one word changes the game: Eternal.
Now, I’m not saying that I can wrap my limited understanding around “eternal” but let me at least look at what the word means. Timeless, boundless, endless, permanent, infinite, abiding. Even if you can’t grasp it – because our world is bound by limitations of time and space – you must be astounded by the claim!
The King in The Bridge from OneDayBow represents the True Eternal God of the Bible, and what that means for born-again believers in Jesus Christ is astounding! Ephesians, chapter 2, verses 4-7 say it much better than I can:
“But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.”
Bear with me a minute as I try to put into words the wonder of what the Apostle Paul wrote in this part of the Bible: Paul was still alive, obviously, when he wrote this under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; and Christ had physically died a number of years before; and Paul points to the impact on future ages because of all God has done for us who are united with Christ… But, don’t miss the little gem not-so-hidden in the middle: we are seated in the heavenly realms! The God Who is not limited by time and space saves humans that are limited by time and space and shares His limitless nature with us!!! Wow! How’s that for an eternal perspective?
