Tim knew the window of opportunity was about to close, and he and the People of the Book really wanted to do what the King was calling them to do. But with hostility all around them, it was obvious they couldn’t do this on their own. (Okay, they knew that all along, but pressing circumstances eliminated a lot of other options…) With the over-reaching authority of the government, and the powerful force of the tempters – led by Natas – this was a David and Goliath situation that required Divine equipping.
It wasn’t at this point that the People of the Book looked for something new; they relied on what the King’s Son had already provided. On that day they were reminded of the importance and the integrity of the equipment they wore, and so they were encouraged to press on.
Rather than rushing the Mayor, or tackling the tempters, they solidified their resolve by kneeling in prayer in the view of their opposition. A sign of weakness? No! A testimony to the One they had trusted with their eternal souls, the One who cared about the souls of all people. And don’t think that it was for the purpose of show, but they knelt in genuine thankfulness to their King for all He had done so that even more could go to the Bridge made by His Son.
We wrap up chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow with an important view from another Location. The King of OneDayBow viewed the whole field, knew the opposition His people faced, and listened intently to their prayers:
But what they didn’t see as they knelt in HereAndNow,
Was their prayers being heard by the King of OneDayBow.
(The Son is doing far more that we can even know!)
So they lifted their requests, then trusted and let go.
Wow! So important for us to remember as followers of Jesus Christ. These are perilous times we live in, but also times of great opportunity to trust in our God and see Him move on our behalf. Governmental Goliaths can be very intimidating, and the dark forces behind them, but don’t forget that with God’s help David defeated Goliath!
