In chapter 6 of “The Bridge from OneDayBow” Tim and Emma have a conversation that would have lasted about an hour, but it’s taken me months to get half way through it! Tim has questions that deserve consideration, and rightly and wisely Emma takes him back to the Book for answers: “In the beginning, Tim, this big world we live in was totally made by Him.”
Stop and take that in for a minute. “In the beginning” indicates a beginning to the world, and therefore a creative force that’s behind it. The rest of Emma’s sentence clearly identifies the King as the Creator of it all. Unfortunately, Tim didn’t understand that – it wasn’t what he’d heard. Like many people, Tim’s ideas emerged from a world-view that excludes the possibility of, and dismisses the evidence of, a Creator. But, at least Tim was willing to listen.
Emma continues: “When everything began, the King was here along with one woman and one man.” Hold the presses! Where did the woman and the man come from? If the world was totally made by Him, that must mean that they too were made by Him. Right?
Let’s cut to the chase and get back to THE BOOK – the Bible. Can you get yours out, or bring it up on your electronic device? You’ll read about the real “In the beginning” in the first three chapters of Genesis. It should take about 6 minutes. I’ll wait.
If you haven’t read those chapters before, your mind is probably spinning! A world created by choice and not chance? A Creator? and not a cosmic phenomenon? But if you have read it before, don’t give in to the temptation to know it so well that it goes in one ear and out the other without it really settling in your mind. Do you see God’s power? Can you recognize His goodness? Did you glimpse His wisdom? Don’t miss His Father’s heart, His providential care, or His immense love! If you raced past any of those things, please go back to THE BOOK. The Bible is God’s story that graciously reaches out to every person in every generation and invites us to know Who He is.
So, what does that have to do with “The Bridge from OneDayBow”? Everything! I told you up front that I’m a Christian and that I take the Bible literally and seriously, because what it says is right and true. And incase you missed this as you read Genesis, chapter 1-3, I have some questions for you to consider: Who told the truth? Who acted in accordance with the truth? Did/does truth matter?
The Bible is God’s Story. I want to encourage you to get to know The Author of The Book better. Have you been away for awhile? Maybe today is a good day to get back to The Book.
