If you weren’t paying attention you may have missed the Bible verse on the title page for Part Two. Just in case, let me give it to you now:
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.”
Does that seem a little out of place to you? After all, Tim just “arrived” in HereAndNow, and now that he’s in the Kingdom he should be done with tempters, right? Kind of, sort of… not really. Crossing the Bridge brought Tim into the Kingdom, and changed a whole lot of things, but didn’t remove him from the real battle. Real battle? Yes. The conflict between good and evil, light and darkness, OneDayBow and HereAndNow. Simply put, the tempters won’t give up easily. Sure, they can’t have Tim’s nooma but they can sure try to keep him from being effective for the King.
While Tim is trying to unravel the riddle of time and space, the King says something about tempters… I really wish he would have been paying attention, it would help us have a better idea of what this is all about. But, for now we work with what we have. “Your training starts today.” Surprise!
If you’ve been a Christian for any amount of time, hopefully you know about spiritual warfare. Either way, it might be a good idea to take a quick look at Ephesians 6:10-13. (Actually, the whole book of Ephesians – in the Bible – is so important for every believer! Maybe after we’re finished here you can take 20 minutes or so to read it.) For now, here is chapter 6, verses 10-13:
“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. “
That sure puts verse 13 and battle training into perspective, doesn’t it? But don’t miss something important: for the Christian, our enemies are real but invisible. Unlike the tempters of “The Bridge from OneDayBow”, which are symbolized in a way that can be seen, our spiritual enemies cannot be seen with human eyes. The conflict is REAL, but of a spiritual nature. Sure, there can very apparent physical elements to it, but ultimately, we are reliant on the Lord’s mighty power to stand in the battle against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
Tim is about to find out that there is much more to OneDayBow than he could have imagined, and that everything that he needs to stand for the Kingdom is supplied by the King. Otherwise, the battle would be TOTALLY overwhelming. Tim – and us, too – are going to find out that battle training is not for nothing!
