Before rushing on, there’s more to learn from the tempter’s scheme in Chapter 11 of The Bridge from OneDayBow. I ended the last post on a harsher note, so I want to encourage you with something that the tempters will never tell Tim: failure does not need to be fatal, but you must resist the enemy.
Tim is new to the Kingdom but he did know enough to recognize a tempter once he asked, “Want to have the world?” That sent up red flags everywhere: foe alert!!! But when the tempter pulled out the next trick from his bag of bobbles, Tim had second thoughts and believed his lie that bobbles might be a good “witnessing tool”. Before the bobbles settled in his pockets, the tempter turns on him! (Don’t you know that’s what happens? Sooner or later the lure becomes the snare!) The accusations start flying and that’s when the tempter pulls out two more of the Not BIG Enough lies:
The King is Not BIG Enough to make Tim right
The King is Not BIG Enough to keep Tim secure in Him
Ouch! That hurts because there seems to be some truth to it. Tim messed up big time – he didn’t even make it past the first tempter! Was he really any different from any other kid? But don’t miss this: though the insults were flying at Tim, this is NOT just about Tim. The accusation goes beyond Tim to the King he now belongs to. Tim recognizes his own failure, but knows it is his failure and not the King’s.
The evidence may have been stacked against Tim, but it was no reason to give up in defeat. The King promised to always be with Tim, so he tightened up the Truth-belt and cried out for help! After all the King’s Son did to bring him into the Kingdom, and the fact he has His Nooma inside of him, Tim knew he could trust the King. The King is BIG Enough! Tim’s faith was energized, and it changed the whole course of the battle! The King’s Son – Who I am convinced must have been close by – showed up. He faced the tempter! He defended Tim! He acknowledged Tim’s rightness and security in Him! Is the King BIG Enough? Uh huh! Just like it says in His Word!
Reading the Book, knowing what it says, and then walking in obedience is vital for walking in freedom in the Kingdom. “The Truth will set you free” is more than a catchy phrase; it is imperative in facing tempters – and life in general! Tim has a lot to learn, and he needs to grow in his faith, but he is in Good Hands.
I don’t want you to miss that all the Son did and said was based on the Truth. He didn’t break the rules or change the Truth in order to bail Tim out. He knew what was inside of Tim before Tim even knew it! Tim was not perfect, but he was right with the King because of all the Son had done. Does Tim have learning and growing to do? You bet! And a very good start is to recognize his security in the King, and rightness with Him, are not based on his own merit or ability but the Son’s.
Recently, a good friend of mine died. Debby lives with Jesus now in Heaven and there is not enough of anything in the universe to make her want to come back! She didn’t get there by her own merit or achievements, and certainly not by collecting bobbles! She wasn’t perfect in herself, but she was in Jesus. She’s with her Savior now because He is more than BIG Enough!
Christian friend, do you know He is BIG enough for you?
