It is so easy to get caught up in Christmas present – and in Christmas presents. It really could be the most wonderful time of the year if it weren’t for a hundred distractions and attractions. I forget all too quickly “The Reason for the Season – Jesus”, and get caught up in the present madness. But if we let Christmas past determine our celebration. we’d see Christmas from a very different perspective. Let’s take a step back from the…..
The US elections are finally over, and I haven’t gotten any political ads in a week. Phew! If I had to come up with a word for this election cycle, it would have to be “Ugly.” I don’t know what it is about politics that seems to bring out the worst in some people. As I flipped open to chapter 30 of The Bridge from OneDayBow, I couldn’t help but think that we’re living the book! I’m definitely not a…..
Tim knew the window of opportunity was about to close, and he and the People of the Book really wanted to do what the King was calling them to do. But with hostility all around them, it was obvious they couldn’t do this on their own. (Okay, they knew that all along, but pressing circumstances eliminated a lot of other options…) With the over-reaching authority of the government, and the powerful force of the tempters – led by Natas –…..
In chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow, it has come to this: the People of the Book can’t even gather in a Park to proclaim good news! Tim knew they had the right of free assembly. He probably even knew a descent lawyer. In a Court of law, they would take the Mayor and the city to the cleaners! And in all fairness, that could have been the course of action Tim took and the book would have taken…..
Please don’t let my slow pace dull your enthusiasm, but yes, we’re still looking at chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow. My Pastor has been known to teach on one verse, or even just one word on a Sunday, and it hasn’t hurt us yet! In fact, we learn a lot by that close examination. I hope you do too! When the Mayor showed up at the Park, with every intention of shutting down and silencing the People of…..
Maybe like me, you look for distractions to give your mind and body a break. Time out in the garden is a good one for me. It lets me be useful while not having to think too much. But I do have to be careful, even with gardening. Before too long I can find that I’ve been distracted by it for far too long. Even good things can keep us from more important matters. But let’s face it, some distractions…..
I’m close to wrapping up chapter 29 of the Bridge from OneDayBow – really. But I admit, as I read about the Mayor’s reaction (page 131) to a peaceful gathering in the Park, I’m stunned. Not surprised, given the world that we live in – and even the free country of America – but stunned. I’ve lived a long time, seen a lot of things, but I’m dismayed by the growing antagonism to the Gospel, and specifically to those who…..
Have you ever had someone call you by another name? How about, mispronounce your name continually? Even worse, have you felt the pang of being misrepresented? If so, you’re in good company. I think we’ve all experienced such things at some time. But any such slight or slander cannot compare with what has been done to the God of the Bible. As we begin to wrap up chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow and see the conversation with Joe…..
As I approach the end of blogging “The Story Behind the Story” (after MANY years), it may seem I circle back to some issues. Or linger a little long on a subject that seems elementary to you. But for some who are still seeking, the questions are real and should be considered. Like Ann, in chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow, who asked Tim these questions about the King and His Kingdom: Why doesn’t He [the King] accept us…..
In chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow, while Tim was focusing on Joe, there was another important person there who was listening – Ann. Remember Ann from chapter 14, at the “Live the Truth” meeting? She thought evolution was scientific-fact but found out she’d been given inaccurate and insufficient information. Misled by people that she respected concerning the origin of life, Ann was seeking to know the Truth. So today at the Park, Ann expressed belief in the existence…..
