Sometimes I feel like I’m living the book! Last week I started thinking about the title for today’s entry and the last several days confirmed it. Here and now is looking more and more like HereAndNow.
As chapter two of The Bridge from OneDayBow begins, Tim meets a friend on the street as they both leave the fair. The two share a common disappointment, but for different reasons. Tim’s friend is frustrated by failure to achieve “bobble success” while Tim is more concerned about the apparent deception going on: “Does anyone really know that the fable is true?” he asks his friend.
That friend, in his disappointment, is open to what Tim has to say… for about half a minute. It’s one thing to question the legend of the tower and the importance of the game, but when Tim mentions the possibility of something beyond HereAndNow the conversation door closes. His irritated friend exits and others rush by as Tim voices his curiosity about the Bridge from OneDayBow.
It wasn’t even that Tim necessarily wanted to talk about it—and he sure didn’t have all the answers—but his eyes were opening to the deception and his disappointment couldn’t keep quiet: “Is there anyone but me who really wants to know? I know there must be someone!” Tim doesn’t know it yet, but he just requested a divine appointment and is about to get it. Disappointment at deception is often the perfect opportunity for a divine appointment.
Which brings me to what happened to me this past week. I had three separate encounters with deception and disappointment. One I walked right into; one I was surprised by; and one left me in shock. My initial reaction to each one varied, but ultimately it all brought me back to the realization that outright deception is prevalent; the deceived often become the deceiving; and deceit planted takes time to uproot.
Staring at the deception of here and now did nothing to soothe my disappointment. Only truth reveals deception and gives the means to stand against it. So, you guessed it, I had a divine appointment. Actually I had many divine appointments with the God of all truth Who divinely inspired His Word to be written so that we can know and believe the truth. Not only that, we can then speak the truth that uncovers deception so that others who care to know the truth can have a divine appointment too! Pretty amazing, huh? But we’ll talk more about that soon.
Next week we’ll look at Tim’s divine appointment and the brave young woman who cared enough to share the truth with him. I hope you come back then.
