I’m late again, on blogging that is. It’s not that I haven’t tried. In fact, many days I thought about it and many times I sat down to type, but it just was not adequate. The information was correct and fact based, but there was a shallowness to my words that comes from knowing something too well and for too long. Today I try again, prayerful and hopeful that the Lord will help me go deeper.
As we wrap up Chapter 16, and Part Two of The Bridge to OneDayBow, all the attention seems to be on Tim. But Tim’s attention is on someone else:
Just then Tim saw the Son’s face and it was worth it all.
Seeing the Son’s face made it worth it all? All? How so?
Tim knew even before crossing the Bridge that he didn’t get to OneDayBow on his own, and he sure didn’t make the journey alone. Every piece of equipment that Tim possessed was not of his own doing but given as his own provision. He owed his very life to the Son, Who had given His life to make Tim His own. Which leads to Tim’s all important question:
“King’s Son, please tell me Your Name.”
He answered, “I am Savior.”
Savior? That’s an unusual name! But what does Savior mean? The obvious answer is one who saves, someone who delivers or preserves. Not just a helping hand you pair with your own abilities to make something happen. It is a need met or a deliverance achieved by another’s intervention that you absolutely could not do in your own powers. Savior is the only hope when the need is the most desperate, and the feat is impossible.
I find myself wondering what Tim’s reaction would have been, since the chapter ends with the Son’s words, “I am Savior.” Was Tim surprised? Confused? How about, peace?
I think Tim might have smiled and said, “I should have guessed that, because that’s exactly Who You are! You have proven it to me in a thousand different ways, saving me from more than I can comprehend. You’ve promised to be with me through all the days ahead, and that victory comes from trusting You! It is You Who has the power, You Who paid the highest price, You Who made the way so we can trust in You. Yes, Savior! But it’s more than a name; You are my Savior and the Savior of all Who will put their full trust in You!”
You won’t be surprised to know that Jesus is referred to as Savior in the Bible. But what does that mean? According to one Bible dictionary: Jesus saves His people from the guilt and power of sin and from eternal death, from punishment and misery as the consequence of sin, and gives them eternal life and blessedness in His kingdom. (The Complete Word Study Dictionary, New Testament)
But did you know the Name, Jesus, means Savior? That’s Who He is to those who belong to Him. Our Savior Jesus is the One Who gives us the victory as we trust in Him because He has the ability and power to do so.
Do you know Jesus, my friend? If not, I urge you to pray to the Lord today, confessing that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness – in need of salvation. Give your life to Him and He will give you new life through His Holy Spirit. Then get to know this Great and Awesome God in the pages of the Bible. You will soon discover for yourself the reason He is called Savior, and you’ll learn that it’s so much more than a name.
