Do you remember the first time you feared you were alone?
I was probably all of about six years old when I remember having my first “alone” fright. My family was at an Amusement Park when suddenly I looked around and didn’t recognize anyone. I still remember that feeling of terror. I don’t think it lasted long, but what relief when I saw my Mom’s face! Looking back, I bet she was there all along and knew where I was – which was no small task considering she had five kids to keep track of! It’s a big world and not safe for me to be alone in, not then or now!
But let’s talk about Tim… Right after the King tells Tim that battle training is about to get underway (Chapter 9 of The Bridge fromOneDayBow), He says the following:
“Because of all you’re facing, your journey will be slow.
But throughout the adventure you’ll learn things you must know.
So keep this in your mind in whatever you go through:
You won’t do this on your own – My Nooma goes with you.”
So, you may be thinking, what does it mean for the King’s Nooma to go with Tim? Let’s take a look at what the King says next:
“He will guide into all Truth as you walk in His Way;
Teaching and reminding you of My Word, day by day.”
Guide. Direct. Teach. Remind. Day by day. Invisible, yes, but an ever-present Help.
We’ve already talked about nooma/pnuema. It may be confusing, but both words are pronounced the same. Spelling it as “nooma” in my book makes it more pronounceable. In the New Testament of the Bible, the Greek word for Spirit (or spirit) is pneuma. Jesus talked about the Spirit (pnuema) of truth in the book of John, chapter 16, verses 13-15:
“When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring Me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. All that belongs to the Father is Mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever He receives from Me.’”
But let’s be clear about something, the Spirit isn’t just with believers, but in believers:
“He is the Holy Spirit, Who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you.” (John 14:17 –Jesus)
And, The Holy Spirit isn’t an outside contractor hired to tag along and keep you out of trouble. Listen to what Jesus said shortly before His death in John, chapter 17, verse 21:“I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are One—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe You sent Me.”
Christian believer, while we may not be constantly aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence within us – the very Presence of God – I would say; if He wasn’t “here” we would sure notice!!! Do you read your Bible, and understand it? Do you have a desire to know and walk in the Truth? Are you reminded about Jesus; Who He is, what He said, and what He promised will happen? Three cheers for the Holy Spirit! But don’t miss as you read these verses; the connection between God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit of Truth is obvious and inseparable! If you are a born-again believer, the work of the Holy Spirit in us extends beyond what we can comprehend! We could spend a lifetime trying to fathom this mystery, but one thing is obvious, and priceless, we are not on our own! Aren’t you glad?
