As I prepared to blog from chapter 21 of The Bridge from OneDayBow (yes, I’m still talking about chapter 21…) I picked up on something I hadn’t noticed before. That happens more often than you’d think!
The quiet, but brave person who asks Tim a question on page 92, seems to disappear after the tempters roll out the bobbles. (Rotten tempters!) I noticed it doesn’t clearly state if the person was male or female. (Mistake or intention? I don’t remember.)
Okay, I jumped ahead of myself. This person – male or female, young or old – asks:
“I’ve had a lot of trouble and made some big mistakes.
I’ve got a lot of bobbles, but most of them are fakes.
I really want to go there. I need to meet this King.
But will He even let me… because of… everything?”
You may have wondered why I called this person brave. Remember, this was out in the open at the Park. People, strangers, were everywhere. And here is this person spilling their guts (so to speak) about failures and fakes. Why would someone do that? I think the answer is clear: “I need to meet this King.” Awareness of need. Pure and simple.
Before we talk more about “need”, we can’t miss Tim’s reply:
“Yes, anyone who chooses to meet the King can go.”
… “His Son is at the Bridge – He will tell you so.”
Could there be any better news for someone honestly seeking to know the Truth about the King? “Yes, anyone…” The way has already been opened to the King, by the King’s Son. What remains is the individual’s decision to choose to go, and then to go!
Before we have a chance to find out what that person’s choice is, the bobble-brigade shows up and rolls out bags of bobbles! What happens next is entirely predictable in a town of bobble-loving fans. But actually, it’s more than just that they love bobbles. They – the people chasing after the bobbles – genuinely think they need them. Need them how? Certainly for some form of security – as fragile as that is. But how about for recognition and respect? Really? How would I come up with that? We’ll talk more about that next time, but first let me ask you:
Do you recognize your need to meet Father God? Do you know that is only possible through His Son, Jesus? If so, have you made your choice? If you are still waiting to decide, let me encourage you that you may not have another chance. The temptations of the world want to lead you away from God with distractions and attractions of all kinds. They may not look like a bag full of bobbles but have no doubt that there is much that glistens in the world that is not gold. Don’t search for and settle for less than the Truth. You don’t want to be like that unknown person with an uncertain destination.
