Please don’t let my slow pace dull your enthusiasm, but yes, we’re still looking at chapter 29 of The Bridge from OneDayBow. My Pastor has been known to teach on one verse, or even just one word on a Sunday, and it hasn’t hurt us yet! In fact, we learn a lot by that close examination. I hope you do too!
When the Mayor showed up at the Park, with every intention of shutting down and silencing the People of the Book, I’m certain the Mayor thought they would just pack up and go home. Tim, Emma, and those who were with them that day, weren’t looking for a fight but neither were they going to give up or turn back from what they knew was right.
Tim gathered up the People of the Book who were there.
He said, “Don’t be discouraged. We know this isn’t fair,
But we know where we battle is the enemy’s land.
Using what the King provides, together we will stand!
I think it was important for Tim to acknowledge that the People of the Book had reason to be discouraged, but they couldn’t allow themselves to camp there in anger or self-pity. That is enemy territory! Although it’s undeniable that HereAndNow is the enemy’s, it’s the place the King has called His people to battle, with the equipment He provides.
I was at a School Board Meeting a few weeks ago. (I can imagine some of you cringing, especially if you live in California!) I was given an opportunity, along with many others, to speak for a few minutes. I used the time to express my support of School Board Members who are taking a lot of flak for standing for the right. Unfortunately, some have accused them of being “political”, but that is far from true. Sorry to say, there is absolutely NO political gain in California for standing up for morality. But boy, are there ever bobbles offered to those who will play along with the State agenda. And many chase after them.
Having said that, and as carefully as I think is warranted, I realize that without a born-again relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ there is not the conviction of Biblical Truth. The people of the world are submitting themselves to other authorities, although most don’t realize or acknowledge that. There are still many excellent teachers in California, and I think most want to be a positive role model in children’s lives; but as long as the State Legislature is making and passing absurd and destructive laws they will be forced to comply with that standard of education (or indoctrination). This isn’t a battle Christians want to be in, but with God’s help we can stand.
God isn’t necessarily calling you to speak at a School Board Meeting. (I was surprised when I sensed that He wanted me to do so!) Perhaps there are other specific ways that God has called you to serve and to stand. Whatever realm of service and opportunity He’s planted you in, seek to be informed and available. Don’t be discouraged by the battle, but instead see it as the reality God has declared it to be in His Word. God has told us of the battles in advance and is able to enable us so we will stand.
Always remember, our battle is NOT against flesh and blood. When we take a stand for truth, we do so for the glory of God, but also for the benefit of those who need to know the truth and be saved.
