Put me in front of an ice cream counter and you’re probably going to wait awhile for me to decide. A burger is a little easier; with cheese or without – depending on the day. I like those kinds of choices! Other choices aren’t quite as palatable. House work or paper work? Homework or yard work? Hmm… can’t I just choose neither?
Many choices seem important at the time, but most only last a few minutes or a few hours and then we move on with the day. Sometimes the choice matters little and sometimes a lot. One choice lasts forever, and it is a choice that everyone must make.
As Tim and Emma are wrapping up their conversation in chapter 6 of “The Bridge from OneDayBow” it takes a turn that is unanticipated, but really, totally expected. Tim has been asking about the King and wanting to know about His involvement in HereAndNow. He’s starting to understand why things are the way they are, but what about beyond here and now? What happens then? Tim has lived long enough to know that people who used to be around aren’t anymore. And so, he asks the BIG question – the one that no one wants to think about, but everyone wants to know: What happens when we die?
Can you feel the tension in the air? That’s not a question you ask lightly. And if you know The Answer, you don’t tell it without some emotion. Listen to Emma:
“When you meet the King by faith, your nooma is made new.
You will safely live with Him when this first life is through.
For those who will not trust the King before their final day,
Their forfeited nooma exists… in a sorry way.
“Once you pass the city’s end the time is then too late
To receive the King’s Nooma. No one should hesitate!
The choice is yours to make, Tim. It says so in His Word.
I’m praying you respond soon to the Truth you have heard.”
So that’s it? Well then, give me two scoops, and extra cheese! If it’s just a matter of meeting the King by faith – whatever that means – who wouldn’t want that? It seems to be a much better choice than the alternative! Sign me up! But don’t miss this: you’re not choosing ice cream or a burger or even a vacation destination. This an invitation to a relationship with the King of the Universe. As amazing as it sounds, you choose Him!
